Well, getting from the train station to the proper boading dock and then on the right boat with SIX pieces of luggage was a challenge. I got on first and the boat was jam packed with folks commuting home from work. They almost didn't let Bob on the same boat! It was raining and crowded and we had no idea what we were doing. Neither of us had been to Venice before, but we made it in one piece. Lugging the bags from the dock to the hotel in the rain (once we arrived at our "station") was a pain, but thank goodness there are ramps that go over all the canals. The Danieli is a famous 5 star hotel right next to Piazza San Marco. Our room was small but the bed was big and comfortable. It's an old 14th century palace and some of the floors are a little creeky, but the lobby is gorgeous.
We luckily woke up to sunshine and had a great day touring and walking around. We did a little shopping and had a great lunch at "Roberto's"
We had a 4:15am wake up call the next day and spent forever getting home. The flight from Frankfurt to SFO was great and we watched a movie and tried to sleep.
It was a wonderful vacation and I will never forget all the fun the three of us had. But I'm glad to be home with my kitties and my TV and my family.
Ciao

. Dinner was fabulous and we met the husband and wife team who are co-owners. For a minute I thought she was going to join me in Maui, but instead they booked a trip to Tailand. A very nice couple....but I can't remember there name. I had octopus! Different but good, and for the 2nd time had stuffed squash blossoms that I love.We had a 4:15am wake up call the next day and spent forever getting home.
