We were here in Waverly, Ohio, for the last several days of Bud's life. When we heard he was critically ill, we immediately left for Ohio from Canyon Lake, TX where we were camping. We were glad we could be here with Jim's mother and the rest of his family.
Our "excellent adventure" began a year ago yesterday and is now at a close. It has been a fantastic once-in-a-lifetime journey
. We would not have made this trip if it wasn't for Bud and Jim's mother, Louise. They instilled a love of camping and adventure in their kids by taking them camping every summer -- usually up to Michigan. Love of camping is still strong in the Fricke family and we get together every year in August for a camping reunion here in Ohio. The idea for our trip was inspired by a 3-month trip that Jim's parents took many years ago that took them into Canada, Alaska and many of the same places out west that we went. We loved hearing their stories from their trip and they inspired us to follow their path.
We dedicate our trip and this blog in loving memory of Bud Fricke. May he rest in peace.
We have some sad news to share. Yesterday, Jim's father, Clarence ("Bud") Fricke, passed away. We will miss him a lot, but we are relieved that in the end he passed peacefully. Bud was a gentle man of strong faith who loved, and was loved by, his four children, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. All of them were able to visit him in his final days.
