Where I stayed
Picacho Peak State Park

After a month in the same place, we started our journey to the Phoenix area.  But first, we spent a couple of nights at Picacho Peak State Park.  This is a beautiful state park and one of the few that hasn't been closed yet due to the state budget woes -- but is slated to be closed on June 1st.  We felt lucky to get to camp here as it is an absolutely gorgeous setting.

The campground has electric hook-ups which was good since the nights are still cold.  We have a campsite with view of the Picacho mountains which, due to recent rains, are alive with the new growth of spring.  We took a 2.5 hour hike around the base of the mountain.  We started too late to reach the peak but had wonderful views anyway.

Today we left for an RV campground in Mesa, outside of Phoenix.  We will stay in this area for at least a month.  My sister Pat, her partner Carol, and a friend of theirs Evanne will be coming on 3/20 to take in the sights around Phoenix, including some spring training games. Later this month, Jim will be going backpacking down the Grand Canyon with his hiking buddies from Michigan and Ohio.  A few days before he leaves, my daughter, Emily, will be flying out and with Pat,Carol and Evanne we will travel north to Sedona - one of my absolutely favorite places (this will be my 4th visit in 15 years).

So, the next time I blog will probably be in early April after those excursions are completed. Until then, take care, keep warm and I look forward to sharing our adventures next month. Pam
