Jim and I went back to Tubac the following Friday for an art festival where juried artists and crafters alike displayed their wares.  At the same time, there was a wonderful sculpture exhibit where we saw works by some of our favorite southwest sculptors and by other artists who now are added to that favorite list.  We were especially pleased to meet Rebecca Tobey whose work (along with her deceased husband, Gene) we have previously admired in trips to Sedona. Unfortunately, Bill Worrell, from whom we bought a sculpture in Sedona several years ago, got delayed due to travel weather problems.

No art was bought since we currently have no storage capabilities and are saving our money for our travels (and eventually our retirement home), we thoroughly enjoyed daydreaming about which art we would buy if we could.

On the way back to Tucson, we stopped to visit the San Xavier del Bac Mission.  It is a beautiful example of the Spanish mission architecture that was prevalent in Mexico and southern AZ's earlier history.  A National Historic Landmark, San Xavier Mission was founded as a Catholic mission in 1692.  Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797. For more history about this mission, visit
