Where I stayed
While the campsite was great, we discovered that the park was the place not only for surfers to access the ocean (by clambering over the rocks) but also for the odd ducks (of the human variety) to come out of the woodwork. We had arrived mid-week, so we had our choice of campsites, with nobody on either side of us. That didn't last long as people pulled in for the weekend. We ended up with a couple next to us where the husband (who looked and sounded like Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinny) constantly yelled in a very loud voice to his wife - while he was outside the trailer and she was inside (she rarely ventured outside)
The highlight of our Ventura adventure was a boat tour to Santa Cruz Island, one of the Channel Islands. The Channel Islands and the surrounding waters are protected as a national park. We had great weather until late in the cruise when it appeared that a storm was moving in. But by the time we docked, it had all blown over. We always enjoy a boat ride and we had a great time on Santa Cruz hiking along the island's rim above its high cliffs. Another National Park under our belts!
This was our last stop along the Californian coast and we were somewhat sad to be leaving, but we had more places to see before winter came to the higher altitudes inland.
