Where I stayed
With our friends, the Sweeneys
The first evening we were in Hoodsport, we went out with Terry on his boat. Terry rigged up some rods for catching salmon in the deep waters of Lake Cushman and to our surprise, we got a bite only 15 minutes out. Pam reeled it in -- a 14.3 lb, 31-inch chinook (king) salmon. We didn't think to bring a camera with us, but attached is a picture of Terry and Pam with the salmon. We tried again that weekend to catch more fish, but they were on to us and didn't bite. Since the lake is drawn down after Labor day, that was the last fish caught of the season
Jim may not have had a chance to reel in a salmon, but he did get to water ski (actually, wake board) -- and superbly at that! Having never learned to ski, Pam was very jealous of his skills -- but not jealous of the cold water that Jim was in!
That weekend, we also managed to squeeze in a hike with Dee and Terry on part of the Staircase trail in Olympic NP. The trail follows the the North Fork of the Skokomish River through rain forest and to beautiful rapids and water cascades.
Since Terry and Dee had to go back to Redmond on Monday, we followed them and spent a few days there so that we could visit Seattle. Heeding the advice that parking was hard to come by in downtown Seattle, we took a bus from Redmond that went to the heart of downtown. We hit the tourist highlights – Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, the Seattle Aquarium and a boat tour of Seattle's harbor.
After the hustle and bustle of the big city, we headed back to Hoodsport where we have been for the last several days. We’ve had no agenda – other than to take advantage of cable TV and watch college football
p.s Forgot to mention that on Sunday (9/6) Jim and I celebrated our 8th anniversary!! Seems like only yesterday that we exchanged vows at Shoshone Point on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Looking forward to many more happy years ahead!
