Our last, but definitely not least, stop on our Vancouver Island adventure was Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. We spent three days in and around Victoria, from its downtown/waterfront to the beautiful Butchart Gardens nearby.  Victoria has the reputation for being sunnier and warmer than the rest of British Columbia and we were glad that reputation was true during our stay!!

Using a walking guide map, Jim and I almost wore out the soles of our shoes exploring the city.  We explored alleyways that are now shops and restaurants, Chinatown, and the harbor.  We even made time for a trip to the British Columbia Museum to see their native art and the "Treasures" exhibit – artifacts from the British Museum in London, representing different periods of civilization.

Victoria is a lively and diverse city, traditional yet contemporary.  Each evening, as the sun started to set, musicians played down by the harbor and artists set up their wares for the tourists strolling by.

Alas, though, we had to take our tired feet back to our campground – not too bad a plight, however, since Goldstream Provincial Park is in an old growth temperate rain forest with Douglas firs towering overhead and waterfalls tucked away nearby.  It was one of the most scenic campgrounds we'd stayed at so far.

(The attached photos are from our first day exploring Victoria's downtown area.  Photos for the other two days will be in subsequent entries.  Way too many pics to include in one entry!!)
