Where I stayed
Woolongong Surf Leisure resort
So off to Sidney we went, the weather didn't get any better and again we missed some lovely views. We got caught up in another traffic jam, the weather had been so bad some of the roads were closed; a lot the traffic heading to Sidney were being filtered onto our road. The main highway passed through areas where the road had been cut through rock and the central reservation was part of this rock that they had left to serve that purpose, Roger said some skill full blasting must have taken place.!!
As the weather was still bad and the "Doll" needed a few repairs we thought we would use the day to get her feeling better. We found the “Wicked” car hire centre and she had, “being Cinderella” just one new shoe, her rear end needed a bit of an uplift, new exhaust mountings,, and as she had lost a bit of her spark,,,, new set of ignition leads gave her just what she needed
Fairy Meadow near Wollongong, was our destination for today. We decided if it was not raining we would set up tent, fingers crossed the weather should be better.
The sun came out and we found a campsite just yards from the beach, set up the tent and went for a walk to see the beach, photographed some more birds !!!
We woke to drizzly rain, oh dear, let’s just go shopping today then, need to get some ideas for Xmas and maybe a couple more fleeces if this weather is going to continue. Roger went off to have a shower and the next thing I know he is being the Good Samaritan and helping an elderly man start his car. The man was an Australian citizen, though he had originally come over from Ireland, he was typical Irish and proud of it !!! After now both of us successfully jump starting his car we heard his amusing life history and lots of Irish jokes!!!
Later that day he came back to our campsite with 2 poems he had written, a copy of a picture he had drawn for his grandchildren and 3 bottles of beer as a thank you for our help. We also heard a bit more of his life !!!
Roger and I went off for another walk, it had stopped raining for 5 mins, we walked the length of beach, probably a mile and a half and guess what ?!! The rain started again.!! We got back to the campsite and decided it was to bad weather to camp, cook. Hey not another meal out,,,3rd this holiday !!
We found a Thai restaurant, the most original Thai we have been in,, the don’t use chillies ???? What,,, we had to ask for some chilli flakes,,,, LOL !!!
Not the best Thai we had eaten but never mind you could buy your wine in the bottle shop so that was cheap !!!
Pouring now with rain, 21;00 when we got back to the tent, soaked just running from the car.
WHAT A NIGHT !! The rain was so heavy and it didn’t stop all night,, we had a few leaks and had to move the beds a bit, Roger wrapped his head up because of a slow drip !!!!! I woke up and just had to go to the loo !!! by the time I got back from the facilities I could wring my PJ’s out they were so wet .
We must have slept a bit because we didn’t really stir until 07;30, I felt like I had been listening to the rain all night though. The wind now added to our troubles, Rogers’s side of the tent was being blown so hard it was almost collapsing on top of him. We popped our heads out of the tent and OH dear !! the Irish man was having trouble starting his car again,,, Roger went to offer his assistance, I stayed in the tent to hold it down ,,, but this time the old mans car would not start and the RAC had to be called out. But what were we going to do ?? Still raining, thing getting wet, us getting soaked just running to the Loo !!, it would be awful to pack the tent up when it was so wet. I suggested we sat it out until the afternoon and if things didn’t get any better we would just have to pack up and find a hotel.
How lucky were we ?? ,,,,, about 11;00 we saw peaks of blue sky above the mountains in the distance, it moved our way, more and more blue Yes! Yes!!! We may be able to dry out. The people on the site next door had looked on their “Radar” ? the forecast was that no rain would be following this evening.
We put some things out to air and walked along the cycle track into town, it turned out to be a lovely afternoon and evening. We were lucky enough to catch a cycle race that was being held on Lighthouse point,,, quite exciting,,,see pictures---
A nice enough evening to cook on the BBQ, although the cooking facilities at this site were about the worst we had experienced, in fact apart from the good position of the site the facilities were not good at all. “Wollongong Surf Leisure” not one I would recommend.
Moving on again ….
We did the sensible thing and looked on line for the weather forecast ?? Possible rain and not that warm was being predicted,, Roger looked on line for some accommodation, we wanted to make our way to Narooma, about 3.5 hours. He saw something just up our street, a whole house, some sea views,,$78 dollars a night,, too good to be true,,,, yes, too good to be true,, it was booked for tonight,, ok!! we will see what we can find on our way,,, may have to be camp site, the weather wasn’t really going to be too bad until Wednesday...
