First of all he took us down to Flinders Street Station which is, by Australian standards anyway, a really old building. Apparently there's a story that the building plans for the station got mixed up somewhere on the way from England. The story goes that the flinders station was actually meant to be built in Mumbai and vice versa.
We saw a lot of really cool graffiti around the city. Although its a criminal offence in most places, there are areas where the government pay artists to decorate the walls
Along the way we also visited some really groovy looking bars. One was called Seduction and its basically down a little side alley in what used to be a car park. The owners took a cargo box thing and turned it into a bar. Another bar called The Croft is science themed and your drinks are given to you in test tubes and syringes. The other place we really want to visit is called Berlin and its split in two - East Berlin and West Berlin. In the east, it's all dark and dingy and you can only get beer but on the west it's all done up and they serve cocktails. We're going on a pub crawl tonight with the hostel so maybe we'll pop into some of these places!
Shanna also took us to a sweet shop where we watched them make a stick of rock which was pretty impressive to watch. It starts off as a massive chunk of rock and they stretch it down into tiny little pieces! We went to Haige's chocolate shop after and had some tasty free samples :)
oh while walking down one of the main streets, Shanna spotted a couple of pro skateboarders who were in town for a tour event. We got a group picture with them although neither of us have a clue who they are! But cool nonetheless :)
After a quick lunch in China town of dumplings etc we went to Fitzroy park and had a look around the flower conservatory. We headed to a really posh looking hotel and were told to keep close to Shanna because we weren't really meant to be in there. He took us up to the 35th floor and told us to use the "best toilets in Australia". Inside the toilets there is a floor to ceiling window that looks out over the city! Not what we were expecting at all!
After getting a taste for the city, we're looking forward to our boozy night out later on
