What I did
Germany vs. Argentina in the FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals

Flag of Germany  , Bavaria,
Saturday, July 3, 2010

Wendy, Mason, Meg and I watched the quarterfinals game at the Irish Pub in Regensburg.  Spectacular game, but the Germans dominated and won 4-0 vs. Argentina. Friedrich, Klose (x2), Mueller all scored.  The eruption of Germans into the streets afterward was insane!!  They were cheering, shouting, chanting, waving flags and shirts.  We followed the crowd towards the Dom where everyone was gathered.  Along the main road there were cars parading around with flags and people shouting from them.  I had never seen so much pride in Germany before and it was intoxicating.  We got caught up in the chants and cheers and attempted to sing whatever songs they were singing.  After this, Germany did lose in the semi-final match against Spain who ended up winning the cup final.

I watched the consolation game in Munich with Wendy Germany v. Uruguay who won 2-3.  They closed down a main street to traffic and all of the restaurants and cafes set up tvs outside on the walkway area and chairs so that people could watched.  We just picked one, got a beer and enjoyed the game and noise of the crowd as Germany played.  Afterwards, the Germans crowded the streets and sang and chanted again.  Wendy and I stayed out of it because it could have turned ugly fast.  We chose a nearby cafe but stayed out of the main street area.  It was a fun night, Wendy had made Spaetzel with onions and garlic and some green salad, we ate the rest of it when we got back after the game.  It was a great opportunity to watch the World Cup in such a huge Futeball country and see how they reacted to the games, wins and losses.
