We had to then change to the special cog-wheel train to get to the summit of the mountain. The trip took a long time because of some steep inclines. The first 1/3 of the journey we could see the surrounding valleys and mountains but then we went through a tunnel the rest of the way up. It took over 70 minutes!!! Once we reached the end of the train line we were at the Zugspitzplatz which was another transfer station. It was almost at the top of the mountain but not quite
Then we took a cable car up to the very top. I was slightly scared but everything was fine, it was very safe. The view was again amazing but sometimes the cloud cover made it difficult to take pictures. We also couldn't get to the very top because that required special hiking gear, a hard hat and way more guts! I was again nervous but managed to take a lot of photos. We wandered around the top for a while, there were many viewing areas, souvenir shops, a restaurant too, but it was colder and too crowded.
We went back down to the first area and got some food. Wendy had currywurst and I had cheese spätzle! It was delicious as usual. We caught the last train down the mountain and headed back to Munich. It was already a long day and I had to still travel back to Regensburg. Overall it was one of my favorite trips, just because of how easy it was to do in one day and see so much!!
