Show trip route
At the end of June I went home to see Peter graduate from High School!!! It was a great trip, but very short. I flew into Newark on a Wednesday night, we prepared for the party on Thursday, got the Grandmas on Friday and Friday night was the party. It was great, but very tiring. Pete graduated Saturday morning and it was so hot!! It was the only sunburn I've gotten all summer. Pam flew back to Charlotte on Sunday afternoon and mom dropped me off at Newark Sunday night. It was really nice to go home and I can't believe I only have a month left in Germany.
Fourth of July!!
The World Cup was coming to an end. The US was already out, but it was fun to finally get to know some US players and see how they compare to the rest of the world. Germany played a few more times and I went to see a bunch of the games in the city. One in particular was on a Saturday and Wendy came to visit for the game. After Germany won, all the fans crowded into the Domplatz (Cathedral Square) and watched cars go by. They form their own parade after the games, cheer, wave flags, sing crazy songs and drink beer but it was really fun to see that side of Germany.
During the semi-final (Halb-finale) Germany played Spain and it was a sad game
I went to Munich to watch Germany's final game against Uraguay on Liepoldstrasse. I have never seen so many huge flat screen tv's in my life. Each cafe, bar, restaurant had chairs and tables set up all along the sidewalks and tv's as viewing areas. After they won the game the fans rushed into the street to celebrate all night long. We stayed out of the crowd and just observed the Germany pride.
The next day we walked from Wendy's apartment to the Englischer Garten which is one of the world's largest urban public parks. (larger than Central Park!!) It was beautiful but the weather was so hot, we had to walk in the shade and stop for breaks a lot.
This past friday night (July 16th) Mason, Meg and I went to the Weinfest in Regensburg. It was basically an outdoor concert with many performers, where about 100 picnic style tables were set up with wine vendors (and food!) all around the perimeter
I am trying to plan my last few weekends in Germany and travel as much as possible. It is hard to save money and go to the places I want to see. Zürich was one place I wanted to go but it is so expensive to stay there and about 6 hours on the train. So that is out. I am trying to work out Paris for a weekend in August, and that will actually be a little more reasonable.
I have exactly one more month from today before I fly home for good. I hope it is a good 4 weeks and I hope to take a lot more pictures!!!
