I love the fact that there are running paths everywhere and there are always people walking, running, riding bikes, and even fishing. However I am not surprised because I recently heard that Germans say, "nach dem essen sollst du ruhn, oder tausend Schritte tun." Which means, after dinner you should rest or walk a thousand steps. I went for a really long run, watched some kids doing some fancy flips in the park and then I had to avoid the Polizei after the soccer game ended in the local stadium
On Sunday I decided to go to church and finally found my way to the Dreieinigkeitskirche in the Altstadt. It was a small quiet service, definitely not what I am used to. There was renovations at the real church so they had the service in a small chapel across the street. A small brass band played and there was a really good pianist. Thankfully the pastor spoke very slow and made it very easy for me to understand. After church I walked by the river back home and found some beautiful parks where the flowers are just starting to come up.
After lunch I met up with Mason to go to the Thurn und Taxis Schloss for a tour. It was absolutely beautiful. I have been to the mansions in my hometown and a few of the mansions in Newport and they do not compare to any of the places I have been to in Germany so far. The details, tapestries, coloring, themes, furniture etc. is so intricate and expensive. This was the first Schloss I have been to that did not need much restoring post-war since Regensburg was not greatly affected by the wars (with respect to bombings). All of the beautiful sights of the city make me realize how lucky I am to live here and everyday I find new streets to walk down, new cafes, picture-happy tourists, and happy Germans. Life in the south is definitely a complete 180 change from the north.
I have a lot planned for the coming weeks and I am so excited to get to share Regensburg and Germany with some of my favorite people. Next weekend my friend Wendy comes to Regensburg. My parents and my brother are flying into Paris on the 26th and will be in Germany for the rest of the week, and in the beginning of April I will meet up with them to go to Dachau, Munich and Füssen to see the castles. In the end of April my friend Elise, also a student from URI will visit me from France!
