In an attempt not to be a braggard, I am going to wait until my second sentence to tell you what I did this weekend. Okay, I went snowboarding in the Andes!

On Friday after almuerzo (lunch) I packed my snowboard bag and descended the giant hill above which my house rests to get to my last class of the day. I smiled and answered ¨es un cuerpo¨(it´s a body) in response to the numerous puzzled and curious looks that I received as I carried a 166 cm. black body bag up a flight of stairs to my second story classroom.

Once class was through, eight of us hustled to the bus station and an hour or so later we were in Chillán. The bus station in Chillán was exceptionally shady so it was a good thing we were eight strong to make fortifications. adam, meghan, me!
adam, meghan, me!
A half hour or so later, our little minivan showed up for us and we were on our way to the mountains. Cesar, our driver, informed us that it had just been snowing. I nearly peed my pants.

I woke up the next morning at 7 to a sea of empty bottles and a floor full of hot wax shavings. Then I remembered that after numerous failed attempts to procure an iron and also after the ingestion of a bottle of delicious Chilean red wine, I had decided to wax my snowboard by way of the fireplace stove. I was a tad worried as I examined my handiwork but was pleasantly surprised to find that I hadn't done a bad job.

The ski rentals of my friends took an ETERNITY (and I am pretty much positive that I was completely unbearable during the entire process- think child in grocery store throwing tantrum)and then we were finally on the mountain around 10:30. I simply couldn't wait anymore so when we arrived at the hill I think I was on the chair before some of my friends even had their boots strapped in.

And then everything in the world was perfect.

Adam, Meghan and I rode like bandits for the rest of the day, not even stopping for food or restroom breaks (it was a POWDER DAY!!). We even got an extra hour because the pistes close at 5 instead of 4.

In short, it was absolutley epic. And exactly what I needed. I love Chile.
