Hopefully everyone is figuring out how to use this site... Colin is having trouble here!
We arrived in Madrid after an 8 hour overnight bus ride from Barcelona. We were a little nervous getting off the bus since we didnīt have any maps of Madrid and everything including the Metro into town was closed until 6am... until we realized that our handy Europe Travel Guide had many awesome maps and even a map of the Metro. Using the half an hour wait until 6am we polished up on our understanding of the Metro and breezed through like pros to the city center. Upon our arrival at 6:20am we expected the streets to be dead... much to our surprise people were wandering the streets from the clubs that had just shut down, making our sober look at the city realize the debauchery that goes on here!! (the 2 guys crawling on the train platform to go home should have been our first hint that there was a huge party scene here!!)
The architecture is awesome again here, where Barcelona seemed more of a mix of modern and ancient, Madrid seems rooted in the ancient, with bronze statues and sandstone carvings on most of the buildings here
Since we have been wasting time checking out the city until either an internet cafe opened or a hostel opened we went into the only business open at this hour on a Saturday... a Cafe! Since less people here speak English, I have been forcing myself to try and speak Spanish. The guy at the Cafe told me I was really good and we actually had my first full conversation in Spanish together! (Well ok, he conversed... and I stumbled!) He was so impressed with Colin and I (plus we gave him a 3€ tip) that he bought us a dessert, a pastry smothered in Sambuca and sugar! So far here has been totally awesome... and it has only been 4 hours!!
Thanks for responding to the blog Zabrina!! It was awesome to here about your honeymoon in Jamacia!! Congradulations again you two, we canīt wait to be your neighbors again!
Until we see another computer... Adios Muchachos!
