After a most enjoyable dinner in Port Melbourne with our friend Con, we mosied on up the Tulla Freeway to arrive at the Melbourne International Airport at 10.30 pm. Whilst our flight to Dubai (via KL) was not due to leave until 2.40 am, we could not stretch our friendship for midnight airport runs. In any case, we thought we had it covered by using a pass to the Qantas Club (thanks Manny - I still had one). I was sure I could bluff our way for 2 entries on the one card.
Well, I had been reading that Qantas had recently returned to profit - and I can now see why: the Club is not open when you want to use it! We tried our luck at the Emirates Lounge, but alas the card has no value there, regardless of the fact that it was an Emirates plane we were travelling on that code-shared with Qantas.

The hours passed and we were soon boarding the 777ER. as luck would have it, the flight was not full (to KL at least) and I had a 4 seat bed to stretch out on whilst Gail took 3 seats for hers. Whilst the food was still economy, the lie-flat bedding was nearly as good as business and only a fifth of the price!! So at least we slept when our circadian rhythms told us to. KL to Dubai was a different story and we were packed in like sardines, however time passed quickly with the amazing array of movies, TV series etc. on offer from the in-flight entertainment.

Our hotel in Dubai is just across the (very wide) road from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport. Whilst it would be near impossible to cross the freeway on foot, it wasn't necessary as the hotel has a 24 hour complimentary shuttle that circles around picking up guests as they arrive.
For a one night sleepover to break up the long haul to Europe, this Holiday Inn hotel is ideal. The rooms are clean, there is a complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi and the shuttle makes it just too easy.

Tomorrow's 8.5 hour flight to Madrid will be a snap as we will be refreshed and ready to go. Also the fact we are doing business class on this leg will, I am sure, make it just a tad more pleasurable (although I haven't flown Royal Jordanian Airlines before!).

Didn't get to say a final goodbye and have a great time. I was down with the dreaded stomach lurgy. Paul brought it down, gave it to Peter who then gave it to me. So far the other 2 have dodged it. Any way the snow is great weather good but a bit windy today but at least sunny. Talk soon. Let me know if skype or viber is best. See ya.
