Another exciting day is planned today. We are in Tallinn, the largest city and capital of Estonia. The object of our exploring will be the Old Town - one of Europe's most enchanting old villages.

Tallinn is a heady blend of medieval and modern, with narrow, cobbled streets set beneath the spires of 14th-century churches, and a wild mix of restaurants, cafés and boutiques hidden in the carved stone walls.
We walk the short distance from the ship to our entry point into the Old Town. It is easily identifiable by the large round tower (Fat Margaret) and the archway through the stone defensive walls (the Great Coastal Gate).

Once inside, we spend our time wandering and meandering around the sights and attractions on offer. It is a truly amazing place and one could well spend days exploring all the nooks and crannies without tiring of the task.
Whilst there was a multitude of eateries the most fascinating we found was the small candlelit medieval restaurant in Town Hall Square, that served delicious elk soup, elk pies and other delicacies - and everything on the menu was €1

Also of special note was Katariina Kaik (St Catherine's Passage). One of the prettiest little walkways in all of Old Town, this ancient passage connects Vene and Müürivahe streets. On the northern portion of the passage there is what's left of St. Catherine’s Church (hence the passage name) and various large, ancient tombstones that used to line the inside of the sanctuary. On the southern portion of the passage, are numerous artisan workshops, where the artists are seen hard at work creating new items for one to buy.

As is usually the case, time passes too quickly and we must walk the short distance back to the ship for the 5.00 pm sailing. Whilst the days touring is at an end, the nightly gourmet meal and dearth of entertainment is still ahead.

Tomorrow is Russia!
