After leaving Berlin we headed directly toward the northern Polish town of Szczecin. For some reason I had programmed this town into the GPS as one with some interesting sights to see. When we arrived I could neither find them (despite being taken there by the GPS) nor anything else that was of interest.
After negotiating some very confusing road works in the centre of town, we eventually were back on the highway heading for our final destination for the day – Gorzow Wielkopolski.

So far northern Poland was a disappointment and Gorzow was no exception. Our hotel was probably the nicest building in town. Upon the advice of the receptionist in the hotel, we took a walk down to the river area where there were supposedly nice restaurants and things to do.
Whilst in hindsight there was not really anything to worry about, the walk down to that area wasn’t that pleasant (dilapidated buildings, poor infrastructure and the local population seemingly looking at us like we were from out of town).
When we got to the river area it became clear why the receptionist thought this was the place to be. It was because there appeared to be nowhere better. We then walked to the square of the town and after trying to find some sort of redeeming feature, we resigned ourselves to the fact there was nothing really much to see here either. We returned to our hotel where we booked ourselves in for the evening meal.
We came down at 7.00 pm for the meal and were pleasantly surprised to have a very enjoyable, tasty and traditional Polish dinner.
