Well, the day has come and we have departed from our cosy nest to embark on great and unknown adventures for the next 102 days. We were doing around the world in 80 days but decided to take a few detours!

It did however take some coxing of Gail to have her stop vacuuming floors, straightening chairs and putting away dishes from the dishwasher. "Gail, we MUST leave now or you'll be coming back to do all that after we miss our flight".

So now we are munching on some Swiss muesli, courtesy of Qantas Club and our good mate, Manny.

Next stop - Boston MA (that's Massachusetts for the uninitiated).

Later that day

Well, here we are in Dallas Fort worth airport. Local time is 4.30pm Saturday (8.30 am Sunday Melbourne time).

The flight was to be 15 hours but our racy pilot took a short cut and made it in 14 hours. The exit row seats sure made the flight bearable but Qantas ain't what it used to be.

So we are quick off the plane and making good headway toward the rather short immigration queue. I just know what you are all thinking  - "the Fellers are having a dream run" but then as we are sailing past the conveniences Gail calls out need to go”. What!! You couldn’t have gone while you were on the plane!

Needless to say, we get to immigration and the queue looks like a snake coiling itself around the end metal bollards that delineate the path one must join. Slowly we progress through immigration, then customs and finally we are through. Our checked luggage is whisked away again on its final leg to Boston, and we follow the sign for connecting flights.

Our transit time was to be 4 hours and now there are just 3 to go. We check out the departing flights board and there is flight 610 to Boston at 7.45 pm but where is our flight 614 at 5.40 pm.

Oh! I get it. We are at terminal D and we leave from Terminal B. We must have to go there to see our flight”. The inter-terminal shuttle arrives every minute and we are whisked away to terminal B.

That’s strange; the departing flight details are the same as Terminal D! Where is the Information Counter? There it is – but there is no-one manning it. Let’s go back to Terminal D and ask there.

What do you mean our flight has been cancelled!? Yes, ok we will go to the Qantas lounge and ask in there. They will be able to help us.

There are the lounges!

What do you mean the Qantas Lounge does not open till 6.00 pm? Our flight is cancelled and no-one told us and there is no Qantas staff around to help. OK, we will go to the American Airline desk. At least we know there is a later flight at 7.45 pm.

There is the AA desk!

What do you mean we cannot get on the later flight and we have been booked onto tomorrow’s 6.10 am flight!!?? What about our hotel? What about our car hire at Boston?

Oh! You have found 1 seat – but we need 2! Yes, please ask the lady on the other counter to check your work. Thank God!!!!! You can get us on to the later flight. Thank you, thank you.

Let’s go back to the Qantas Lounge and wait till it opens at 6.00 pm. At least we will have 45 minutes to relax. OK Gail, if you think we can get into the AA Lounge now, you go and ask.

Our luck must be returning. Whilst our Qantas Club passes are no good for AA Club, the traveller sitting next to us on the Qantas flight from Melbourne just happens to be exiting the AA club and seeing our plight signs us in before he leaving to catch his flight to Chicago.

Now we can relax!

All signed up and ready for the feeds! How exciting going on another journey with the Fellers. God knows what exciting journeys we will end up on after following your blogs. After all we are about to emabark on our 3rd Seabourn cruise after being totally captured by your last adventures. Congratulations on the sale of your home and have a fabulous time on your latest expedition. I know I will as I sign in for each update. Happy and safe travels, Gill.

isn't that the shipping line that runs aground?

Tony C on

Seabourn Cruise Line is a luxury cruise line headquartered in Seattle, Washington. The line operates all around the world, from short seven-day Caribbean cruises to exotic 100+ day cruises around the world. It is owned by Carnival Corporation, part of the "World's Leading Cruise Lines" marketing group, which also includes Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruises, Cunard Line, Costa Cruises, P&O Cruises, and AIDA Cruises. Passengers typically range in ages from the 40s to the 60s.

So the FELLERS fit in the age group (just) and I think Costa Cruises have been known to suffer from captains too attentive to certain female passengers rather than being attentive at the Bridge!!! So I think the Seabourn will be safe.

Well said Tony C!

We'll be thinking about you! Have a pleasant flight to USA...

Crikey! Gail & Phil, you've only been gone a few hours and are
already causing havoc in the Qantas Lounge. I can see we
are in for a ripper adventure with the Fellas. Keep those
snaps of Gail coming. Love the pink pillow. Only way to travel!
