Well bright and early on a reasonably calm sea managed to catch the ferry to the mainland with Dan despite a final late night in Tranquila's (one of the bars on Utila) and a few too many beers. We had been watching a tropical storm the previous day that was in Southern Honduras and heading north and were worried that we wouldnt be getting off the island but the crossing was smooth.
We were headed for the capital or Nicuragua if possible. The bus trip was about 6 hours and it rained the whole way. It was first rain i had seen in a while and it was cold. Felt like i was back home in London and felt underdrerssed in shorts and T shirts. But obviously the worst of the storm had passed as the winds were slight and rains were easing.
We arrived in Tegucigalpa and stayed at the Hotel Centenario. This was near the bus stations in Comayaguela area which the bible say "Comayaguela is considered very dangerous at night and even during the day you should watch your pockets"
We ventured out, i wanted to find a cheap camera which i did. I just hoped it wouldnt get stolen on the way home before i had a chance to use it. After the obligatory stop at Burger King which came complete with 2 guards armed with pump action shotguns ( oh it reminded me of Guatemala) and watching the newsabout a plane crash in the capital that morning we headed across the Rio Choluteca to Tegucigalpa proper. It was certainly a different place to where we were staying with the well to do walking the street in the early evening and police on every corner. After a cheap meal (prices were certainly lower here than on the Bay islands) we felt it prudent to take a taxi back to the hotel. We had another long day of travel ahead of us tommorrow and another early start. We wanted to get to Granada if we could but as Dan's visa had expired who could say.
