Where I stayed
Caught the ferry out to Caye Caulker and arrived at the Hotel my friends were staying in. I checked out some dive centres and booked my trip to the Blue Hole the next day. Caye Caulker had a good feel, there were many travelllers here and lots of reasonably cheap places to eat. I spent the afternoon sitting by the sea waiting for my friends. Because there were 4 of us the room was only $6/night, a bargin
After going out for some food i got back to the room and there was a note saying the dive trip was cancelled due to bad weather. I was guttered.
After getting a refund i found another dive centre that said they were definitely going out the next day. I spent the day snorkelling with Mille, a danish girl who was friends with the Germans i was staying with (they had gone on a snorkelling trip to the reefs). We tried to find a pair of grey nurse sharks that were meant to be near the beach but had no luck
The morning came the wind was blowing but the dive was on. The Blue hole is situated in the middle of Lighthouse Reef and is a sinkhole of blue water about 400ft deep and 1000ft wide. It was made famous by Jacque Costo and tourist posters of Belize. The dive was amazing not because there were many things to see but because it is a deep dive. After a fast descent to 130ft you swim beneath a stalactite -laden overhang with the occasional shark swimming past. The other 2 dives that day we also good but i was happy to have dived the Blue Hole (at $190US you would be upset if you were not happy)
The next day i did 2 more dives with another company. we saw a load of grey nurse sharks that a diver was feeding and a very upset Moray eel. That night we headed to a beach party. It would be my last night. I was making a detour to southern Belize to hopefully dive with Whale sharks. Apparently every month a few days before and after the full moon they go to an area off the coast of Placencia to feed on the algae bloom. The full morning was in 6 days so i thought my chances were good.
The next day i caught the ferry to the main land then a 5 hour bus trip followed by a 20minute boat ride. It was a long day but hopefully would be worth it

Caye Caulker
. After witnessing a bar fight and watching people burn in the sun we retired to hammocks and watched the world go by. The weather was still windy and i was dreading not going out diving tommorrowThe morning came the wind was blowing but the dive was on.
