I trawled through the web to find an Anglican church to worship at and decided on St Bede's. A friendly and welcoming community who do English Anglo-Catholicism better than the English do! The service was followed by coffee and fellowship lunch which was nice. One of the ushers was a fellow Brit - Angus Mackay who co-ordinates the upcoming Britweek - a high profile event celebrating the link between the probable 500,000 Brits in Southern California and the city.

I then headed east in search of Downtown - which was easy enough and found a parking lot. The business district was almost deserted and I took a lot of photos, some of which you can see here. After passing through the vibrant Grand Central Market, I stumbled on the Fiesta Broadway Cinco de Mayo Street Fair which ran for about 15 blocks along Broadway. There were thousands of people celebrating this important Latin fiesta - the biggest in the Latin american world!

The older buildings along Broadway and the Jewellery District gave many photo opportunities and hinted at the grandeur of of LA in bygone days. It was getting very hot among the high-rise and so I drove north a couple of mile sin search of Chinatown. This compact area is well laid out and offers many opportunities to eat. I then headed back to the motel to do my laundry and catch up on emails and upload my photos.

By chance, I searched for Art House Cinemas in LA and came across Landmark which just happened to be showing the film I was on my way to see when I had the accident in Concord three weeks ago. So, as the sun was setting I headed 16 miles north to watch Salmon Fishing in the Yemen which I have reviewed here. Finally got home at 12:15 am and fiddled on the web for another hour. We were all rudely awakened at 06:55 by someone triggering the alarm on their car and seemingly being unable to shut it off. Cheers.

I am about to head south down the coast to San Diego and see what's happening down there. The skies are bright but completely clouded over - a nice break from the relentless sunshine.
