Where I stayed
What hasn't is the immigration experience at JFK!!!! We had to stand in a queue for 2 hours before the 2 minutes of formalities allowed us into the US of A. I was so glad to see my friend who had waited patiently to meet me - even more so to see a bottle of water in his hand.
Accommodation excellent - Port Washington is a very nice place. We are next door to the Fire Station and even though it's nearly 10 pm the Firemen have just been summoned to an emergency by a klaxon and wailing air-raid type siren before several Fire Appliances zoom past with all kinds of hooters, sirens and horns blaring - it makes the house shake
Well, today I took the train in to Penn Station in Manhattan from where I went to the Empire State Building - it was sunny with good visibility. From there I walked miles down to Katz's Deli for lunch. This is the place where Sally had a memorable scene with harry in the film where they met! the sandwich was good but didn't do anything more than satisfy my hunger - actually it so preposterously large that I couldn't finish it.
I then went down to the southern tip of Manhattan and walked up the Hudson river for a good hour or so before taking the subway (Expresses don't stop at every station - beware!) to Times Square
and the M&M Store at my daughter's request. From there back to Penn Station and the welcome opportunity to rest my now aching feet.

I was intending to take it easy and stay local tomorrow but the weather forecast is good tomorrow and not so good the following days, so it's back into the metropolis.
