Hey everyone,

I know that I've been pretty slack with staying in contact, it's just been a bit of a whirlwind!! ok so I arrived here at emerald lake last Wednesday and it was so scary! I got picked up and when I got here the assistant resident (rez) manager showed me around for a bit and then I was on my own! wow. I started to unpack my room and stuff. It was great that I was a smoker cos we would go outside for a smoke and then I met heaps of people while standing out there. I knew that everyone was partying that night but I just stayed in my room. When I was done, a Canadian called Chantelle and an aussie dude sean came in and were like, 'come have a beer' so I was like, 'oh god, YES!' and then we partied in the Frenchy room downstairs and it was just fantastic. So hard remembering everyone's names though! Thursday I was fairly slow haha. started work on Friday and it was the food and beverage manager showing me around the lodge and the ins and outs of food service etc.

Another girl came on Friday, Molly, and she lives across the hall and she's so much fun. My roommate is another aussie and she's pretty cool too, I'm not in my room much so it doesn't really matter I spose! Another aussie girl, Alex, is just amazing. I don't know what I would've done without her, she has been incredible. Most people have Mondays and Tuesdays off so that's our weekend, it's brilliant. Worked fri, sat and sun breakfast shift and partied on Sunday night. Monday and Tuesday just caught up on my washing and a few emails. Worked Wednesday (yesterday) morning and then we did the coolest thing ever.... a group of us, about 9 or so, went cross country skiing yesterday arvo. it was about -2 but blue sky, sun shining. We hired skis and went around the lake, it was incredible, just basically skiing in our backyard of mountains and lakes. It took us a fairly long time to go around the lake, we stopped at every bench to have a smoke and a beer. I have some photos of it and some video (if it works, I'm not sure if it will!). A few people had some very very funny falls and stacks, the photos don't do it any justice!

Ok, I wrote this a few days ago so now I have a little more to update as well! Well, today it's pretty cold and snowing so that was cool to wake up to. I had to work this morning and it was amazing to watch the fog lifting off over the mountains with the snow. Work's going quite well, it was really quite hard to start off with just because things here are done pretty differently but it was just a matter of time before I got used to it so now it's easy as! Still mainly working the breakfast shifts but that's ok, it means I work for 6 or so hours and am finished by lunchtime so that's ok. On the weekend I worked a couple of functions which was good, I thought it would be a lot more fine dining and different to the Alehouse but it's actually pretty similar. All the chefs and cooks are great, there's one dude here who is a bit of a pain in the arse but I spose you always get one in bunch. I've been getting a bit sick so last night went to bed early and the rest of staff rez partied so when I got up at 5.30 to go to work people were still up drinking!! Everyone here still seems great, most people are here for a good time not a long time and it's awesome all being able to get on well enough to live, work and play together.

Just for those of you who have my Canadian cell number, I do not get reception out here. We get it when we go into Golden or Lake Louise but that's not going to be very often I don't think! Everyone is getting excited about St Pat's Day here which is fun. There's an awesome beer here called Alexander Keith's and they have a Pale Ale and an Amber Ale and they are my new best friends, a lot like Coopers so I'm happy. And it's Irish apparently so I think that's what we'll be drinking next week on the 17th! Anyway, hope everyone is well and staying safe, keep in touch, much love xx
