Where I stayed
Ok so we jumped on a bus in picton and boy it was hot, first trip like this!! it wasnt our normal bus company, they had outsourced to a different one for this trip, so hot tiny, dusty, nearly broken, no windows to open, the "air con" recycled hot smelly air - hmmmm! To attempt to escape i buried my head in my book, got occasional jabs from steves elbow as he pointed out the mountains, the coastline, it was stunningly beautiful but bought me back to the bus. The rather large woman infront of me had fallen asleep and her seat was broken so she was pretty much lying on me, the seat was in my lap, it was hot hot hot hot! haha you just have to laugh about these things, not exactly travelling in style! We we very relieved to stop on the coast for a quick stretch of the legs and sprawled out below us on the rocks was a massive seal colony! they were adorable! the older more dignified ones and the little ones sliding all over the place, so amazing!
We survived the last leg of the 3 to 4 hour journey and gasped in the fresh air as we stepped off in Kaikoura, a very lovely little town famous for its whale and dolphin watching. Keen to get to the hostel and drop off our backpacks i realised that by accident I had booked one waaaay out of town, oops! it was still a hot hot hot day, it was a relief when we got there, we had our own room - yay! space and privacy, love meeting people but sometimes you just need some peace! haha! we freshened up, strolled out to the supermarket, bought some lovely ingrediants and spent the evening sipping our posh wine (we bought on the picton wine tour), cooking a fabulous fresh butter chicken curry, eating in the dining area over looking the plains of land with a sunset, before curling up on the sofa and watching a dvd, it was our 3 year anniversary after all =)
Today we have walked back into town, left our bags at the i-site (the info point in everytown so very very useful!) and are exploring the cafes bookshops and coastline (in the library at the mo!) we heading out to christchurch tonight as we start the big shoot down south to get to our huge booked trek - exciting times!
Updated extra - ok so kaikoura was lovely, one way you see the coast line, one way the hugest mountains - we've seen our first snow too there, on the caps of all the mountains =) beautiful
Back into the town where we nosied in gift shops, bookshops, ate a gorgeous ice cream and played cards till our bus pulled in, it was a lovely part of the day.
The bus - hmph not so much, the same one we had got here on the day before and we now had 4 hours to christchurch...
Lots of love to everyone,
