Just a quick first entry from Mongolia to let you all know I have arrived safely. We flew in via Moscow, and arrived in UlaanBaatar early on Saturday morning. The cold when we arrived was breathtaking! It was -20 which makes you cough it is so cold, and your nose freezes straightaway. However, all the buildings have industrial strength heating so I wear just shorts and a T-shirt in my flat, but then put on six layers to go outside.
For the first four weeks I'll be undergoing "in-country training" here in UB with 8 other new volunteers, then I'll be moving closer to my work place, the Central Veterinary Laboratory, in the south of the city. Currently I am living in a flat on the top floor of an apartment block right in the middle of the city, sharing with six other volunteers. The flat is great - warm and clean and near the shops and tourist attractions.
The next blog entry will have accompanying photos, I promise!
