Set of from Aussie mainlandin fair weather, motor sailed the 400 odd miles to Lord Howe Island.
Learnt 2 things, 1. gentlemen dont go to weather and 2. cats hurt!!! Not terrible seas, but they just crack like a train between the hulls so sleep is erratic to say the least. Snoozed alot in the day and managed to get some good tucker down the crew with pots dancing on the stove!!
Fortunately we only beat ourselves for 2 and a bit days, then a welcome pull into this little island in the standard rain and drizzle but.....
Wow...
This was a fantastic place, has a population at peak when kids off school of 350, only allows 400 max tourists to flly in at any one time. We're special (no comments) so no problems for us
Figured we'd stay there for aday or 2 til the wind clocked round a bit so we chould actually sail and get rid of the droning engine noise and ease the pounding....so 3 days later, one or 2 beers and some fratanising with the locals (Louise, lovely lass runs the co-op, didnt realise they were so helpful....!!) Not forgetting the Island event of the year, lawn bowls competition. Now you may think , boring, but the whole island was kust about all there, oh and dont forget you have to wear shoes, Mike and I wade up in bare feet and told cant come in but before we started crying they offered us a selection of left over shoes I think from the last competition, so mike I think had 2 left feetand I got a pair of naturally assperated (tops falling off)!!!!
Time to leave, great stamp in passport, would go back there I think.
