This morning before leaving for Maui, Laura & Don took us for a grand tour of Hilton Waikoloa Village, a resort that has everything, including a train shuttling resort guests from point to point, a dolphin pod where paid guests could play with dolphins (though I'm quite against the idea, as it encourages dolphin trade), snorkeling & paddle boarding right at hotel water/pool, and fancy swimming pools.  Laura said the resort offers day pass, i.e., one can purchase day pass w/o staying overnight to enjoy the amenity the resort could offer without breaking the bank.

Leaving for Maui, the line at airport was so much more manageable than the line to the mainland.  Or just because we're more experienced this time?

Total flight time, including taking off & landing, 30 min

Arriving Maui, very different landscape (at least near the airport) from Big Island.  Dark red/brown dirt with acres & acres of sugarcane.  The Maui Gold - Pineapples & Sugars!!!

Visited Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum and read about the difficult lives of early sugarcane workers, most of them immigrants.  Imagine wearing long sleeves, long pants (all handmade with thick materials so sugarcane blades won't slice through the flesh), mitts, Asian style farmer's hat, working very long hours in hot humid Hawaiian sugarcane field, in addition, had dusts to deal with.

After the museum, time to head to our vacation rental in Upcountry and stock up groceries.  Pukalani Superette, here we come!  We love the hot food there :-)

We like our vacation rental here, love the location.  Quiet, cool (that's why I picked Upcountry, almost SF Bay Area like cold weather).  We can eat at home, do laundry, the only thing is "where are our children"?  I hope they're having fun at the camp!  Missing them quite a bit.....

Got to go to bed soon, tomorrow we've a early morning outrigger canoe trip with Local Fishpond Restoration Project.
