So off we go, April the 8th has been a red letter day for so long, packing the van saying goodbye to friends, finishing our house sitting duties all went so smoothly and according to plan it left us feeling pretty nervous and sick when we finally drove off. We'd been thinking about this day for so long it should have been easy and organised, but as it was easy and organised something felt strange.

We headed off towards Victoria, Sharon's birthday was on the 10th we we're booked in for our last stint of luxury in a Japanese style tree house in Lorne so the first part of our trip would be a fairly long drive then a leisurely week around the Great Ocean Road region.

We spent our first night on the road at Cockatoo Lake near Naracoorte, its a peaceful free spot near the Victorian/SA border and after some dinner and a chance to reflect on the madness of finishing up it was a welcome break

The next day we took the scenic route to Lorne though small towns and bumpy lanes and made the most of a leisurely drive. I will at this point mention the Sat Nav, it will no doubt be a star of our travelling as it certainly has a mind off its own. Sometimes it can take you off the beaten track to some amazing roads, other times it can take you half a day towards a dead end, its never a dull moment! I guess its best to trust it and just check every now and again you are heading in the right direction, I'm not sure how well we could travel without one nowadays and certainly has saved our relationship on numerous occasions. But like all thats good in life it will one day surly have enough off this cruel world and drive us off the edge of a cliff and send us all to silicon heaven!

We had arrived in Lorne, there was nothing left to do but slip in to our kimonos and relax. Qudos sculpture park and tree top Japanese guest houses was such a relaxing setting and tranquil location we weren't sure if we could go back to our life living out of the van! But mission accomplished I think Sharon had a wonderful 40th birthday and her present of early retirement :)

Clean, calm and with Australia now at our beckon call we set off on the Great Ocean Road to the Ottaway National Park, not a bad way to start your day.
