I have Polish family so I've been brought up with the local food and drink of the region, being in a country that constantly reminds me of the good food we always use to eat is a good start I guess. We can't get over how relatively cheep Germany is compared to other richer European countries, but we are certainly trying lots of local beer breads and meats as a result, Sharon is lucky being a veggie I think I'm probably going to look like a sausage soon!
Its great driving through Germany, we crossed over the southern mountains and drove through some nice villages, very typical of how you would picture Germany with wooden fronted houses, lots of woods and rolling valleys. Its so quite driving through the towns and villages it can be a bit eery at times but it was a welcome relief and we were defiantly beginning to unwind.
Money has to go a long way traveling so I like to tell people when we see great value no matter if it makes us sound a bit cheep which we probably are! I have said it before and have to say it again, the free stops in Germany are even better than the majority of other free sites and camp sites we have stayed at, I can't believe the standard of facilities you get for free, great views, great locations, clean usable facilities. We even have managed to get electricity for the van for one euro a night! So thats basically all you get from camping with everything minus showers, so again thats ONE EURO for a nights camp, bargain.
We have pretty much breezed round Germany for five days visiting Munich and Nuremberg along the way as well as some smaller towns, we had the obligatory pint at Munich in the busy beer garden, which was packed
Its been a great run the standard of living is so high here I hope they know how lucky they are, the facilities and days you can have out here for next to nothing are second to none, little things like fantastically easy to use bike routes make it so much more enjoyable. The best way I can describe Germany is its how the UK could be if people cared, its defiantly in our minds along with France as a backup to Australia and would be well worth learning a language for, we can't wait to drive back across the north coast on the last leg.
