With the holiday stuff over and done with in Sydney the traveling began in the form of an overnight bus up to Coffs Harbour. The Aussitel hostel there was great and we made full use of the free body boards, bikes and canoes. For some bizarre reason Sinead was absolutely petrified canoeing down the calm river beside the hostel. Which greatly amused everyone else.

Coffs Harbour is famous for its "Big Banana" - the first ever big thing in Australia. The guide book warned us it was crap but suckers for punishment we cycled up to it anyway. The big banana turned out to be so bad it was good. It wasn't very big in the first place. A large plaque in front of it proclaimed it to be the first of what has become a "unique Australian art form". Art form my arse!

We walked to the top of Mutton Bird Island everyday looking out to sea for the humpback whales that are also traveling up the east coast at the moment. There were definitely some black dots out there but we couldn't see much. We later found out that when we were there the only albino humpback whale in the world had passed through Coffs Harbour when we were there. Which is pretty cool even if we missed it.

One reason for missing the whale may have been the bad karma we collected by eating someone's pizza that had been left in the fridge. Admittedly we were drunk but that's not really an excuse. So if anyone if reading this has ever had half a pizza stolen from them when staying in Coffs Harbour we would all like to apologise sincerely.
