The pressure! The day I start to write my travel diary my mate simon's (travel name - siscri) gets picked as travelogue of the week for the entire website. Not what you want really.

The big day has finally arrived. Flying out this afternoon from Dublin to London and then on to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. It might be considered cheating to start a travel diary before I've actually left the country but the going away party deserves a mention. It's not every day you have a Going Away/Halloween/Christmas party.

Music was provided by the wonderful Orla Dwyer, who was accompanied by random other musical and non-musical types. Entertainment was provided by Elvis and Schexy Skeleton from Schexy FM (and Brian when he fell over twice). Christmas decorations and Santa hats were provided by the girls Bruno dancing

. There were a few tears from sad, drunk people - you know who you are! I ended up sleeping on the floor in my own house which is always a sign of a good party.

With 2 hours to go I've just finished packing. I've a feeling my reputation as a light traveller is about to go out the window. In last minute desperation to close the zip of my rucksack I ditched my sleeping bag. We'll see how bad an idea this was over the next few months. If all else fails I have my foil anti-hypothermia bag to keep me warm. Brian is quietly confident his bag is really light and still has loads of room in it (I'm hoping he hasn't ditched his sleeping bag...or toothpaste for that matter).

Looking forward to the free food and drink on the long-haul flight. Loads of butterflies in my stomach which might prevent me from taking full advantage of it. No time to write any more for the moment. Stay tuned for the next year and a half.

On your marks, get set, GO!
