Where I stayed
We all know to "Remember the Alamo". After the few days here, Kim is driving like a Texan. Changing lanes of traffic within one shot! Great! Hopefully, she is not taking up the motto: "Bigger is better!"... Next, Mission Concepción. We don't realize that we have anything this old sitting around in the middle of Texas... but they do....Mission San José....Mission San Juan....Mission Espada, finally.
Yep, we visit all the missions in the fog and all in one shot. We are proud of ourselves. Some of the areas around the Missions look like a scene out of Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Now we are heading for Austin, which is an hour away. We are in a hurry to get there, the sixteenth largest city in the U.S. We want to give ourselves some lead time before getting lost in the dark, just as in Houston. We only stop for lunch at Crackerbarrel when we know that we are near to our destination. Keith does not enjoy his soup. Kim's food, chicken n' dupplins is okay but she is not rushing for a second helping anytime soon. We have tried this place twice, but neither lived up to our expectations. Country Store is the only interesting thing about this place.
After unloading everything at our hotel, we are off to find the hightly recommended vegetarian restaurant, by hotel staff, Mother's Cafe & Garden. We enjoy the ambience but the food is only okay. Would we go out of our way for the food there? NO. Only if we are in the neighborhood, then we would think about it. Now, we have to find our way back to the hotel through the maze highway ...
Pass the salsa, bigger is better in Texas.
Another BIG day in Texas.
