Today is the day to take a last look at this cold & windy city before heading for Rapid City. Loring Park is half an hour away from where I am, 8 Street & Nicollet Mall. There is the sculpture garden, where the iconic Spoon Bridge & Cherry located with the forecast for more cold and rain. Surely...I am ready for it.

Half an hour later...there it is - the red cherry pops out of the white snow and grey sky, almost good to eat. But it's crunch time for me - I only have minutes to spare before catching the Light Train for the airport. A $1.75, this train takes folks from city center directly to the airport. What a BARGAIN!!! I am starting to feel like a local as I am walking my way to the train stop.

Moments later...I am the on a commuter plane to Rapid City. The view of the Great Plains is muddy dull green color with strips of white unmelted snow stuck in the cracks and crevices of the earth. Quite a contrast to the hot and subtropical weather that I am used to. I am heading for the unknown. Yes, it is an unknown to me. It will be my first road trip driving in snowy weather - but for most part it's no worry here. Roads here are well maintained - plowed & salted.

Fresh white snow covered landscape is memorizing sometimes. Snow blanket is magical - it covers all the beauties and uglies underneath it and gives everything a dream like quality of Winter wonderland. The real Rapid City is not yet revealed itself to me - not until the snow is all melted.

I am now at my destination and settle in, but I am not about to call it the night...not...without some grub. Back in my rental car and heading for Main Street. For all the restaurants in this city, I pick Everest, which is selling itself as a Nepali restaurant. might think, no one crazy enough to go to South Dakota for Nepali food. This is a meat and potato country. Eat what they are known for. Got it!!! But knowing myself...I have the urge of doing something different. Errrrrrr, not need to worry, this place is selling itself as a Nepali gourmet delight but it's just another Indian restaurant. But the night still young, Fire House Brewing Co. - here I come!!!

Let it late April!!!
