After 450 miles south, we head east skirting he big city areas and rolling thru the countryside. This post is in between campsites to alert you to a (planned) direction change.

Stopping for lunch at a large rest area east of Bloomington, Illinois, we admire the vast fields and ominous clouds of an impending weather front moving in from the southeast.

We are used to weather patterns in the west and northwest but the patterns are difference here with no big mountains to deflect incoming storms. Our experience in Texas taught us that it can change directions in short order so we keep a close eye on our weather apps such as Westherbug and MyRadar. We watch the satellites. And look out the window too. And look out the side view mirrors to the back. Always vigilantly scanning the horizon for possible storm centers.

As Sraddha said in previous, the interstates really make it easy to make some distance which is what we are doing right now.

We pass huge grain elevators which store soybeans and corn, horse ranches, forests and cross over the occasional high point in the whole area, a freeway overpass.
