1 hour out of Salzburg, Berchtesgadan was the location of Hitler's 50th birthday present - the Eagles nest - die Kehlstienhaus.  They don't really make many references to Hitler's occupation of it, but more the views and the environs. Check it out for yourself. This by far was probably one of the best highlights of all of Europe, and one of the least known about unless you care for war history...
