Where to begin... Singapore ended up being a very upscale, clean, easy to get around city. Which I guess is what we expected. I have never seen a city with so much ongoing constuction of highrises. Due to some severe jet lag we headed back to the airport after only 8 hours in the city and I crashed out in the airport theater - such nice comfy seats! That was pretty much it for Singapore, but we'll be back & not so jetlagged.

Our first night in Bali was in Denpasar. We stayed at what is a "traditional-style" place, meaning it is run by a family who live there. There is a courtyard with separate small buildings for people to stay. Taking a short stoll through town in search of breakfast, we found that there were offerings to small staues everywhere, even on the islands of busy streets.

We caught a bus to Ubud yesterday morning and found another "traditional-style" place with the most amazing gardens (and there were chickens just roaming around the place!). From what we saw of Denpasar there was ALOT of traffic and not much for us to do. Ubud, however, is much more traveller-friendly. There are many shops if you're looking for art/sculpture/etc. We took a walk down to the "Monkey Forest Reserve" where Sarah made a friend. Yes, a monkey friend, and Sarah didn't even have to give him food.

Today we wandered out of town and found the most picturesque rice growing areas. We took a one lane windy road where the rice paddies were terraced and water flowed down from one to the next. During our walk the a line of 8 or 10 ducks marche out of one paddie along the terrace wall single file. No digital camera today so hopefully the pictures came out.

Overall Ubud is incredible. Every home has sculptures and the courtyard entrance to most homes has beautiful gardens. We have one more night in Ubud and then we plan on going to the northern coast on Bali. Hopefully it will be cooler there!
