So I finished Fraser island, and stayed in a bit of a shitty hostel in Hervey Bay called The Palace. It was the cheapest I think, but I wouldnt stay there again. Hervey bay (for some reason pronounced Harvey bay) is a bit of a nothing place, and best to avoid if you can help it. Tired as I was from the trip I sorted out my stuff ready for an early morning bus ride to Brisbane. This trip was only about 5 hours or so,... so it wasnt too bad.
In Brisbane I happened to meet a Canadian called Heather who also arrived by bus and was destined for the gold coast like me. We ended walking into the city together and I showed her around some of the old spots. It was strange being back there again.. but mainly in the fact that it hadn't felt like I had left. Everything was the same, and I still knew where everything was - which is bloody fantastic from a travelers point of view! I ended up checking out a few familiar sites down memory lane, and took a "cruise" along the river in the ferry. I was expecting to possibly stir up some of the negative emotions from some of the not so great things that happened while I was in Brisbane last, but to my surpise nothing came up at all. It was a little surreal.
After my "cruise" it was time to catch my train to Gold coast. I happened to run into heather from Canada again at the transit centre, where she was catching a bus to the same hostel as me... it was a race! Me on the train, and her on the grey hound bus!
