4:30 a.m. woke up again to the haunting sound of the call to prayer echoing across the city. My shakes of the night before? Gone! I was almost astounded that I felt refreshed and normal. I felt human for the first day. Gunter said the first few days were exactly the same for him, shakes included. I arrive at work at 10 am. Into swing with my class now. Finish up at 8.
After work, Gunter, Irene, Bashar and I went to Crums (cafe/restaurant) and we had my first beer since London. Yes, booze is legal in Jordan. It was a draft pilsner called Amstel, and OMIGOD it was heavenly delight! I had two pints and they practically knocked me over like a tonne of bricks. Bashar, who is a good non-drinking muslim, made sure we all got home safe. I crashed about midnight in bliss.
