I managed to sleep for a couple hours, and in the wee hours of Saturday morning our plane touched down for 45 minutes in Beirut, Lebanon. Later we arrived in Amman around 6:30 a.m. We breezed through customs and a smiling Gunter (my teaching partner) was awaiting us with his friend Bashar.

It was raining in Vancouver; it was raining in London, and guess what? It was raining in Amman. Gunter took us to his apartment in Abdun, a posh part of town, and we got to relax a little until a restaurant opened up for breakfast. I drank 2 litres of water as we chatted.

We went to a restaurant called Crums and had omelets. Irene (my travel partner and the advisor from Chilliwack campus) and I were pretty tired. We really wanted to get settled in our new digs The Living Room of My Apartment

. The boys drove us to the apartment that Eman from head office had arranged for us. It was furnished including satelite tv and dishes. Most importantly it is close to work. The cab ride is about 50 cents.

We visited the campus briefly. The building was older, but the campus was very professioanl looking. Later Irene and I hopped a cab down the local "Safeway" to buy some groceries. It was nothing like a Canadian Safeway, in fact the only thing similar was the name. I am a little worried that I am going to have trouble finding food the suits dietary needs (I can't eat or drink most things with cow's milk in it including cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. I also have to watch sugar, flour, and other carbs, or I'm going to wind up big as a house again.) I did my best to stay awake, but two days travel with only two hours of sleep meant I passed out by 4 p.m.
