I must apologize for the first few entries. Apparently they got lost. Our venture into <Montevideo was very enjoyable. The ever present taxis are, apparently, a part of the latin culture. Uruguay is a country of very literate people.. 98 % of the people can read and write. It is next to the smallest country in South America. A country of Socialism and the people enjoy a very high standard of living. The beaches are beautiful and the populace takes advantage of a chance to bask in the sun or just take a siesta after a long lunch break. beef appears to be the main export and leather goods are in practically all stores.  The economic recession has hit this region of Latin A,America in full force.  However, the prices doesn't reflect a recession. They had a soccer game yesterday and the litter left by the 86,000 fans is everywhere. Stopped at a beautiful park and the wild parakeets sings beautiful songs. The people do not like the parakeets as they damage the crops. The parakeets are approximately 10" in length; a far cry from the small parakeets we see in the states. Actually one can teach the parakeets to talk. Well, so long for now, will write more from the Falkland Islands.
