Knowing I would be in Asuncion for the BCS National Championship game between Florida and Oklahoma. The one thing I made sure of was to stay in a nice hotel with cable TV. I arrived the evening before the game and immediately checked the TV upon entering the room for the sports channels. I felt a bit of relief knowing they had ESPN, ESPN Plus, and FOX Sports and that one of them should be showing the game.
Since the game wouldn't start until around 10PM local time I ventured out the next morning in the 105 degree temperatures to see the city of Asuncion. While the city is spread out the historical area was quite easily covered in a few hours. I made my usual rounds of visiting the historical buildings, main cathedral, and historical museum (nicely air conditioned to provide relief from the heat). I was able to pick up a Guarani mask at the street market to hang on my wall with the others, which is the only thing I have purchased so far since I am still lugging around 2/3 of a suitcase full of cold weather clothes that are no longer needed.
When I get back to my room I check on the super slow Paraguayan internet for any info to what channel is covering the game while also realizing my backup plan of watching the game live stream on my 8 inch computer will not work due to the slow bandwith of the internet. As 10 PM rapidly approaches I realize none of the channels will be covering the game: ESPN - Classic Boxing Matches, ESPN Plus - Asian Poker Tour, and Fox Sports - Soccer Highlights! Okay, this f---in sucks! The game of the year and I'm going to be staring at my computer screen for 4 hours looking at written play by play updates! At least the Gators won and my parents recorded the game for me so I can watch it at a future date. Anyways I am out of here and off to Iguazu Falls.
