Have you ever seen the Robert DeNiro - Jeremy Irons movie "The Mission"? If you have then you will understand a little bit about where I am currently at. I arrived in the Missiones region of Argentina after over 20 hours of traveling by bus from Montevideo. The region is on the border of Argentina and Paraguay with the city of Posadas on the Argentinean side and Encarnacion on the Paraguayan. It's called the Missiones region because of the more than 30 Jesuit Missions in the region set up over 400 years ago to spread the Catholic faith as well as protect the Guarani people from the Portuguese slave trade. Nowadays only the ruins of 7 of the missions still remain and I was here for a few days to visit the three best preserved and restored: San Ignacio (Argentina), Trinidad and Jesus (Paraguay).
