Flag of Russia  , Saint Petersburg,
Wednesday, October 23, 2013

That's hello in Russian for all you non-linguists, and welcome to our little travel blog.

Day 1, first day on tour and we begin in St Petersburg, Russian capital of culture (or should that be 1001 museums). Yep, when it's cold outside, there's nothing better than a stroll around a museum with hundreds of school kids and the obligatory busload of Japanese Tourists.

We chose the crown jewel of the city's museums in The State Hermitage Museum, home to hundreds of pieces of art, including many by the great masters including Da Vinci, Rembrant, Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet and Matisse.

But other museums on offer in this great city include the Museum of Atheism (ironically housed in a former cathedral), the Museum of Russian Arcade Games and the Museum of Erotica - hopefully shorter queues of school kids at the latter...

In other news, St Petersburg has been hosting the World Combat Games 2013 (18-26 October) with athletes spotted everywhere. Sadly Team GB seems to be lacking the support witnessed last summer, but we've at least found the local "hockey club"...

I already dislike you guys for being away and having fun whilst the rest of us are stuck here working. Don't expect any response from me when you come back... ever (well not ever but maybe a few days).
