In those first few days where I tried to cure my jet-lag I also applied for my IRD-number I visited several parks, gardens and sights of the big city of Nelson, partly together with some people I met at the hostel, for example Dave (CA), Jason (AUS), Phil (NZ) and others.
I visited the Queens gardens, Myasu Gardens, Founders Park, Chinese Gardens, The Centre Of New Zealand and several more sights in Nelson.
On the Saturday I opened up a New Zealand bank account with Westpac. I wanted to transfer some money from my German bank account, which I had to do by getting money out of an ATM and paying it in to my account at the banks counter. Well, I tried, but the stupid ATM's of the city Nelson were all telling me the same: "Your are exceeding your available funds"... which was not right according to my last bank statement I held in my hands. So well, who are you supposed to notify in Germany? I had all the locking numbers and service numbers from my German bank, but those were all the wrong internal directories. So I had to wait till Monday night when I finally got to reach someone in the headoffice in Frankfurt. They redirected me to a Berlin branch, or at least tried, and after an hour or so listening to "Please hold the line" I finally found out that the bank has to approve to me getting cash out of a foreign ATM. So that was done, I finally could pay off the depts I had at the hostel (they kept my passport in exchange).
