After the relatively easy going trip down the West Coast, we have hit the adrenalin capital of the world - Queenstown. The centre is a haven of shops and offices all advertising rafting, jet boating, bungy jumping, mountain biking, tramping, skydiving, fly-by-wire and other silly sports. The shops only sell outdoor clothing and there is only one inside thing to do - mini golf.

We took the plunge and booked the Shotover Trio. This involves a scary helicopter ride through the canyons, a jet boat ride up the Shotover river narrowly scraping the canyon walls and then - oh my god - white water rafting! I can't believe I've actually booked this! Phil of course is looking forward to this very much but I just hope to be able to send another log when we have finished. Weather permitting this will be Thursday. We've now blown the budget as it cost $269 each (but still much less than 100 pounds).

Consequently, last night we parked at a DOC site. However, when we were going in, someone else was reversing out. When we went to have a look there was a mini crevasse through the road that would have tipped us over. We also couldn't see the "facilities" from out high vantage point and the road was slippy and steep down to the delta so we stayed at the top. As such we had to park at the top part in the turning circle and felt happy not to pay as we couldn't reach the fee box. I think we'll go there again tonight!

This morning we introduced ourselves to adrenalin and went up in the gondola to near the top of the mountain. Then we took a chairlift further up and donned our helmets for the luge. This is basically a toboggan with handlebars that you push forward to go fast and pull back to stop. We had five goes and on the last one Phil crashed into me and even though he let me have a head start he still won. Typical male - everything has to be fast and aggressive. Each go on the luge is $5 but the chair lift is free and the gondola is $15 return. However, we got a 5 luge and gondala ticket for $29 each.

Then we got our photos back - oh how we laughed! The next log contains a selection of the less embaressing ones. I think.

More tomorrow (hopefully) after the Shotover Trio.
