No surprise - it was raining as I left Edmonton. And cold...The rain only hung around for an hour and was gone for the rest of the day. And by mid-morning the Rockies were finally in view. It is incredible how seeing mountains can lift your spirits.
Today's ride was spectacular. The scenery through Jasper and into the Rockies is breath-taking, and I finally had roads that curved; I was able to carve corners and drag my footpegs, showering sparks behind me. My face is sore from grinning all day. British Columbia really has the best roads in the country - the pavement is generally in great shape, they are fast and twisty, and there are literally dozens of routes you can take to get from one point to another. I took Hwy 16 through Jasper, south on the 5 to Little Fort, west on 28 to 100 Mile House (this road rocks!), and then the 97 south to my resting spot of the day, Hope (where they filmed the original Rambo, as a bit of trivia)
And finally some heat! The interior of BC is very desert like (I included some pictures geography and sage brush) and it was here that it finally went above 15C - all the way to 28C!! Felt like heaven!
Other than the scenery and fun riding, it was an uneventful day, except for one "Awww, that is sooo cute moment." I got to watch what looked like a VERY recently born foal get shakily to his feet and wobble over to Momma to nurse. Very cool.
Tomorrow will be an easy ride (less than 2 hours) to Vancouver to take the ferry to Victoria where I will be staying with my good friend and fellow rider Mike.
