My first stop was Vegreville for gas. I didn't realize until I pulled into town that it is also the home to the World's Largest Pysanka (Ukrainian for Easter Egg)! As my good friend Tara pointed out with the big goose of Wawa, it wouldn't be a Canadian trip without pictures of the large things we build. And next to the egg is a large statue of an Elk. I don't why it is there, it just is.
While wandering over to the elk, I was sneak attacked by two ridiculously small dogs. They were probably more rat than dog...let's call them Drats. These drats were psycho - the charged me barking and growling, and when I turned and walked away from them they were actually biting my ankles
I made it to Edmonton safely and managed to find the base and my good friend Terry Ratkowski. He is an oral maxillofacial surgeon that I met last year. He also rides a bike, a very nice HD Roadking. We managed to avoid the rain while we took a short ride to grab supper and then a movie (Hancock - disappointing really, wait until you can rent it). He was kind enough to let me crash in their spare room for the night.
Plan tomorrow is to get an early start (around 7) and head toward Vancouver through Jasper. If it isn't pouring rain it should be a good day for pictures.
Distance for today was just over 250km.
