Well, my plan to be on the road by 0400h went out the window the moment I got out of bed at 0405h. Oh well, the best laid plans of mice and men. Still, I was out the door by ten to five so not that bad.

I avoided Toronto by heading north on highway 12 to Orillia and then cutting across to the 400. The weather remained overcast and cold until about 3pm, just before getting to Sault Ste Marie. The pic of the bike in front of Lake Superior was a brief period when it was sunny and warm. Five minutes later the temperature dropped 12 degrees and fog rolled in off the lake.  Rained a couple of times but not long enough to get anything more than damp.

The recurrent theme today was road construction, road construction, road construction. Apparently, car drivers in Ontario aren't familiar with bikes driving to the front of the line while waiting for the sign to change, common practice in BC.  Got some nasty looks...

I stopped in Wawa for gas and coffee and to admire the gigantic fowl before making the final push to Marathon. I didn't get as far as Thunder Bay but still made (drum roll please:)

Total Milage - 1265km

Not too bad.  Felt alert enough to have gone on a bit more but with dusk coming, the risk of hitting an animal is too much to chance. Until tomorrow...

Enjoy the ride!
Good to see you are finally on the way. See you in Victoria soon. Lots of construction in BC as well. Allison and I were stuck for hours on the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler last week. Have a safe ride! Mike, Victoria.
