OK, I said this town was picture perfect last post; but seriously, it is picture perfect.
We have been very lucky with the weather here over the last couple of days. We bumped into an Australian now working in Slovenia (Chris - he is a tour leader over here) who mentioned he was running summer tour groups, then on one day it dropped 20 degree's and snowed - which dramatically changed the itinerary!
After chatting to Chris we walked around Bled lake and took a few photos, some of which are attached. We walked up to the top of one of the recommended lookouts (our local Australian guide showed us the way) and the views were breathtaking; that is the photo you'll see with Shellie and I in it. We then proceeded to continue to walk around the lake. The lake offers rowing, swimming, fishing etc. In fact, Bled is the home training ground of several Slovenian Olympic rowers, two of which won gold at the Sydney Olympics.
We also walked up to Bled Castle. We decided against going in, figuring we could find another use for the Euro's. We then finished walking around the lake by visiting a few of the town's shops. You may note in the photo's you can see the reflection of the hills, castle and church in the water; or you may not as the resolution needed to upload to the web may not allow it. Anyhow, suffice it to say that Lake Bled is so still it acts like a mirror! Amazing; when you hear a loud splash in the water it is normally a result of the relatively large fish in there; but so few do it (and there was no wind) the ripples on the lake are left to themselves to dissipate slowly. It is no wonder it is a perfect training ground for rowers.Tomorrow we will be exploring elsewhere in Slovenia!
